Spicing Up Your Body Fuel

Water is the fuel our bodies need. I’ve come to realise how important drinking enough water daily is for my health and wellness. It directly affects how well our bodies perform not only physically but also mentally because the two are correlated.

The colour of your urine is one of the best ways of knowing if you’re drinking enough water. A pale straw colour indicates that you’re healthy and well-hydrated. The average adult male is recommended to drink 3.7 litres of water per day while 2.7 litres is recommended for the average adult female (IOM). I now aim to drink 3 litres of water per day. My mother gets surprised by how much water I now drink daily because I hardly ever used to! It’s amazing that I now notice improvements in my skin and energy levels that are dependent on the amount of water that I drink!

Infusing my water with fruits and vegetables once in a while has been a great way of drinking more water by sweetening it naturally. It’s also great for  taking in very vital nutrients which help to detoxify the body. Many people buy flavoured water but I believe that this is a much healthier and safer alternative as it doesn’t contain any artificial colourings and preservatives which commercial flavoured water tends to have.

This week I’ve infused my water with oranges, cucumbers, strawberries and mint. Each of these fruits and vegetables is filled with so many nutrients, vitamins and minerals which are beneficial for general health and wellbeing. I add them to the water and steep it overnight. If I forget to do so the night before, I add them in the morning and drink the water during the day. Another great thing about detox water is how varied each one can be by mixing different fruits and vegetables. I sometimes also use lemons, blueberries, kiwis, ginger, pineapples.

I’d love to know if you’ve tried infused water and any other fruits and vegetables that you may have used!
